This dish brings together the rich, aromatic flavours of Singapore-style chicken curry with the smoky crunch of charcoal you tiao. Traditionally, curry is enjoyed with bread, prata, or rice — but swapping in charcoal you tiao adds a contemporary spin while keeping the comforting essence of the dish intact.
The dark, crispy exterior of the charcoal you tiao offers a unique depth and aroma, contrasting beautifully with the creamy coconut curry and tender chicken. It’s a hearty, satisfying fusion that feels both familiar and exciting, perfect for sharing during gatherings or enjoying as a cozy meal at home.

4. Add liquids & vegetables Pour in coconut milk and water. Add potatoes (and carrots if using). Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until the chicken is tender and the curry has thickened.
Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar to balance the flavour.
5. Prepare the charcoal you tiao Reheat until crispy: Air fryer: 180°C for 3–4 minutes
Oven: 180°C for 5–7 minutes
Pan: Lightly toast on medium heat
Cut into thick dipping sticks.
6. Serve Ladle the hot curry into a bowl and garnish with coriander or fresh chilli. Place the charcoal you tiao on the side, ready to dip. For a richer bite, let the you tiao soak slightly in the curry before eating.
